Continuous Professional Development Session

HYWEL ROBERTS ON ‘BOTHEREDNESS’: MAKING LEARNING MATTER

JOIN OUR FREE TWILIGHT CPD EVENT FOR ITT & ECTS

In this free session, Hywel will introduce thinking & research around pupil motivation and the ingredients that can support a bespoke curriculum that allows teachers professional freedoms whilst enabling them to sleep well at night. We will engage with some planning examples and grow an understanding of how stories, narratives and contexts are now being promoted by cognitive science as useful vehicles for pupil learning.

Delegates will leave with tools & ideas that can be applied straight away in their classrooms. Ideas from the session are rooted in reality & will offer colleagues a renewed vigour to kick off their career in style.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to register their interest in working for our Trust, as well as details about how they can hear more about our current vacancies or upcoming vacancies.

HYWEL ROBERTS: TEACHER – WRITER – STORYTELLER – HUMOURIST
Hywel has been a teacher for over thirty years. His reputation has grown hugely since he stepped out of the full-time classroom & found a niche in the world of model teaching, contributing to and advising curriculum designers and innovators from Barnsley to Brussels. He is an experienced teacher in Special, Primary and Secondary settings, nationally and internationally. He is also a well- respected author and contributes regularly to a variety of publications.

Hywel leads the PGCE programme in Drama at Huddersfield University and contributes to the Masters programme in Drama and Creative Writing at Leeds Beckett University. He also contributes to University Education programmes in Sheffield, Liverpool, Durham and Wolverhampton. Hywel still works with children, keeping his insight fresh, current and useful. His work deals with curriculum liberation, creative practice, engagement, leadership, literacy, teacher development and Imagineering – the liberation of the art of teaching.

His award-winning book ‘Oops! Getting Children to Learn Accidentally’ is published by Crown House Publishing and has proved very popular with educators around the world – it is now a feature on the reading list of many university teacher training courses. Hywel’s number one Bestseller on Amazon, ‘Botheredness’ was published in 2023.
