Chris is the Director of the Nottingham Institute of Education at Nottingham Trent University, where he has worked since 2016. He contributes to the training of both Primary and Secondary teachers, teaches on joint honours and masters courses, and supervises several doctoral students. His research interests include school leadership, accountability and performativity.
Chris trained as a physics teacher after completing a PhD in astrophysics at Durham. He taught in the north east before moving to Lincolnshire, where he was a secondary headteacher for 13 years, leading 3 schools, each with its own challenging circumstances. During this time he chaired a local Education Improvement Partnership which transformed education across 9 partner providers, managed multimillion pound building projects, and sat on the SSAT’s National Headteacher Steering Group.
Chris still lives in Lincolnshire, where he is a member of a Methodist Church and a sailing club. What spare time he has he likes to spend outdoors with the family.
