Belonging… it’s a concept which is incredibly important to us at Archway as part of our Inclusion value.
We recently held a development session alongside Inspiring Leaders where senior leaders from across our academies and trust came together to look at how to foster a sense of belonging, including a session from the fantastic Doug Lemov.
Doug Lemov is an American educator and author. He wrote the international bestseller “Teach Like a Champion”, which provides educators access to great teaching techniques. He is also the co-author of “The Coach’s Guide to Teaching”, “Reading Reconsidered”, and “Teaching in the Online Classroom”.
One of the major highlights of the day was hearing from some of the wonderful students at Bluecoat Wollaton Academy, where the event was hosted. about how they feel they belong at their school.
Principals from some of our academies also led sessions on various aspects of belonging, including:
- Interconnectedness: Creating strong staff teams
- A warm welcome: recruiting and inducting staff teams
- Culture, Opportunity and Belonging
Dave Taylor, Director of Teaching Learning, said: “I love working at Archway Learning Trust, where leaders focus on the conditions, signals and environments which create belonging for our pupils, colleagues and wider communities.”
