Happy new year everyone!
What a wonderful way to start 2018 with the news that The Nottingham Emmanuel School has joined Archway Learning Trust. The Nottingham Emmanuel School is based in Wilford Village close to West Bridgford. It is a 1,000 strong secondary with a strong faith ethos and a passion for transforming the lives of young people for the better. Joining Archway is a wonderful opportunity for the Trust to work with another like-minded Academy which is student centred and wanting to unlock the rich potential of every child not only to gain examination success but to develop the whole child.
As the new year begins with the loss of yet another education secretary in less than two years, it is incumbent on head teachers and CEOs to dig deep to answer the question of moral purpose. When the political and educational landscape moves as quickly as it does it is vital that we have certain guiding principles by which we all organise and run our schools. The concept of social mobility is much talked about but one that teachers for generations have cared about and actively pursued. Having an education that is fit for all children regardless of background or ability and encourages and supports ambition and excellence for all is what most teachers do day in and day out through teaching outstanding lessons. It is what great leaders aspire to achieve with tenacity and determination during every conversation and assembly and meeting they undertake.
As The Nottingham Emmanuel School’s logo puts it, we are here “Together to learn, to grow, to serve”. I can’t think of a better sentiment to start 2018. Welcome Emmanuel!
