John grew up in Southwell and attended the Minster Grammar School, where he later returned as a Mathematics teacher. He went on to hold senior roles in local schools and served as Head of The Joseph Whitaker School in Rainworth for almost 20 years.
A strong advocate for the role of sport in education, John led the school’s development as a specialist sports college and also served on the national Rugby Football Union Council during a period of major change in the game. His wider governance experience includes serving on the Diocesan Board of Education and the Southwell & Nottingham Educational Trust.
Appointed an Honorary Lay Canon of Southwell Minster in 2013, John has a longstanding commitment to supporting young people and strengthening educational provision.
As a Member of Archway Learning Trust, he brings extensive school leadership experience, deep knowledge of governance and a strong commitment to helping young people thrive.
