As we start the new academic year, we’re welcoming Bluecoat Bentick Primary Academy to our family, Archway’s second primary school.
The school, formerly known as Bentinck Primary and Nursery School, is in Hyson Green and officially became part of Archway Learning Trust on 1st September.
Sian Hampton, our CEO said: “I am absolutely thrilled to welcome the staff and pupils from Bluecoat Bentinck Primary Academy into our Archway family.
“Our mission statement is ‘working together, transforming lives,’ and that is certainly what we’re aiming for as we join together with our new primary school.
“The wealth of experience our new interim head teacher brings will be complimented with that of staff from Bluecoat Primary, our first primary school, who will be supporting and working alongside the staff at Bluecoat Bentinck.
“These two staff teams face many similar challenges both working in City schools less than two miles apart. We’re excited about all the opportunities that this collaborative working will provide, in order for us to support children in some of the most deprived areas of Nottingham.”
Bluecoat Bentinck will be in good company as all our schools are rated as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED. We have a proven track record of successfully turning schools around with the notable success of Bluecoat Beechdale Academy (formerly Haddon Park High School), which went from an OFSTED rating of ‘inadequate’ to ‘good’ under our support and guidance.
We consulted carefully with parents, staff, pupils and the wider community before changes to the name of Bluecoat Bentinck were made.
Sian continued: “It’s really important to us that when a new school joins us, everyone is comfortable and happy to come on that journey.
“Through our consultations we learned how positive the community were about the alignment with our Bluecoat schools whilst also being proud of the identity and heritage of Bentinck Primary.
“Therefore, we wanted to maintain the identity of the school by keeping ‘Bentinck’ within the new name. With the addition of ‘Bluecoat’, we see this as a joining of two longstanding Nottingham institutions to enable the best education for children in this community.”
Miss Julian is the new interim head teacher at Bluecoat Bentinck. She commented: “This is a really exciting time for the pupils and staff at Bluecoat Bentinck. Joining Archway Learning Trust provides a brilliant opportunity for us to work collaboratively with other schools in order to provide an excellent educational experience for our pupils.
Miss Julian brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in primary school leadership. Throughout her career she has worked tirelessly to develop staff and enable them to be the best they can be, ultimately leading to the children achieving their very best.
Miss Julian has worked as a Local Leader of Education (LLE), supporting schools across Derbyshire to improve. She is also a National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) Pupil Premium reviewer, supporting improvements in the achievement of disadvantaged pupils, and an Evidence Leader (ELE) in Education for Derby Research School, supporting schools through training and coaching.
She continued: “I’m really looking forward to getting started and working with the team to build Bluecoat Bentinck into the wonderful school I know it will be.”
