Bluecoat Aspley Academy Host Nottingham Citizens Delegates Assembly

We were very proud to host the Nottingham Citizens Delegates Assembly at Bluecoat Aspley Academy recently. Our students presented to the delegates, launching their ambitious plan of creating social justice groups within each of our faith schools.

Our Christian Youth Worker, Naomi Lake, said: “It’s always so inspiring to see young people using their voices and taking the lead in campaigns across the city and nationally.

“We are very excited to be joining hands with Nottingham Citizens and it was great for our students to be able to see a Nottingham Citizens delegates meeting in action and to hear first-hand the work they can get involved in.

Nottingham Citizens is part of Citizens UK, the UK’s biggest and most diverse people-powered alliance who work together on key social justice issues. From the Living Wage to Racial Justice in Education, Climate Justice and more, the alliance brings together individuals and local organisations to drive nationwide change.

Naomi continued: “I was so encouraged to hear how inspired and excited our students are to get stuck in. They really want to be able to bring change, use their voices to stand up and bring change in their local community. It was such a joy to see that fire lit in them! I am very excited to see how our students get involved and grow in confidence and courage as they do. They summed it up beautifully when they said ‘We are young, we are Christian and we thank you for giving us a voice’.”
